Pitbull in a Sweater Needs a New Home

There’s a popular comedy routine about dog rescue women dressing up pitbulls in sweaters. But volunteers and staff at the Harris County Animal Shelter in Houston were surprised to find this nicely dressed girl in a pink argyle sweater, as a stray in Tomball Texas.

They are calling her — of course — Argyle.

Argyle is fawn and white pitbull mix, approximately 5 years old, and weighs 54 pounds. She is friendly with people and kenneled with another dog.

Because Argyle is heartworm positive, she is not currently eligible for transport out of state. Once she is heartworm negative, she could travel. Any local Houston rescue group that takes her will need a 3-4 month foster for heartworm treatment.

If you are interested in fostering Argyle for rescue, reach out to Urgent Shelter Pets Houston. Volunteers will work to match you with a rescue group.

Argyle is also available for adoption. You can visit her in person at Harris County Animal Shelter, 612 Canino Road, Houston TX. Her $50 adoption fee includes her spay surgery, microchip and vaccinations.

EDIT: After publication of this article, we received the note below from the finder. We are working to get updated pictures of this girl without her sweater, as her owners may not recognize her.

Hi. I provided this sweet girl a safe place to stay for a night as the finder was unable to keep her. Argyle was found with a brown male pitbull mix. The finder loaded them up and brought them to me in Tomball. She was shivering from the cold and the first thing I did was put this sweater on her. I reached out to many rescues whom were unable to take her and her friend, and thatโ€™s how she ended up at Harris County with this sweater. Thank you for networking her, I have been following online for the last few days and praying a rescue and foster are found. She is sweet and gentle soul, she would make a wonderful companion.

Argyle would much rather be in a home than on the streets on in the pound. A550769

Thanks for the info Ruby! We’ll get in touch with shelter volunteers to find out the status of her companion, and see if they can take pictures of her without the sweater as well!

Is she still intact? I let a lady take a pit mix I had. She was spayed & microchips. I want to make sure this isn’t her. She had a white chest. Thanks for all you do.

      • HouDogMom

She was intact when she came in, but the shelter has spayed her now, so she can leave the same day with an adopter!
